Nutrients rejuvenate cells
As one of those guys I had much the same view as everyone else when I started researching. What was amazing and reassuring was to discover that it didn’t have to be like that. A major reason for optimism was the discovery that many of the foods and supplements already linked with cutting your risk of disease, such omega 3 fish oil, eating a low carbohydrate diet and getting a good level of vitamin D, had a direct effect on the changes in each of our cells that go on as we get older and conspire to produce those symptoms.
Genes aren’t destiny
But there is another discovery about ageing that may turn out to be even more important. Genes aren’t destiny. We read a lot about genes for cancer or heart disease or arthritis and the assumption is that if you’ve been dealt a bad genetic hand at birth, you’re stuck with it. The latest ageing research suggests that isn’t necessarily true.
